Current Summer Reads

 Hello and welcome beautiful people!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog😊. Today is Thursday, June 24th, 2026, I again, spent the majority of the day driving around the city checking out new places. It's basically dinner time. but I like today's topic as it is about one of my favourite things: BOOKS!

On Goodreads, I have set a goal of reading 25 books this year (January 1st-December 31st), and while Goodreads likes to remind me that I am 5 books behind schedule😖, I say life happens because it is now summer time and this teacher WILL be catching up on her reading!

Below are the four books that I am currently reading (I want to preface that all opinions and views are my own) :

This is my most current read that goes EVERYWHERE with me. She's the third book in the Crescent City series and my fourth book this year that is over 600 pages😅. The previous book, House of Sky and Breath, ended with TWO MAJOR plot twists that had me IMMEDIATELY starting House of Flame and Shadow. I recommend reading the Throne of Glass series first, and then the Court of Thorne and Roses series second in order to better understand this series.

These next two I am kind of taking my time with them just because they are more heavy and worldly in their context. Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye deals with self-love and acceptance while Marjan Kamali's The Lion Women of Tehran deals with women's rights and equality in a time and place where that is far from the norm. I started both during the school year and hope to finish them both once I am done with the behemoth of the book that was aforementioned.

As I mentioned in my Intro, one of my undergraduate degrees was Africana Studies. This degree and subsequent courses introduced me to an entirely new genre of literature that I was not privy to when I was growing up. Kekla Magoon's Revolution In Our Time: The Black Panther Party's Promise To The People,  follows the rise of the Black Panther Party from its grassroots beginnings in Oakland, to the Party spreading nation wide. I am interested to learn and read more first hand accounts about the Party as the media and other books dilute, hide, and cover what the Party actually stood for. Again, this is one book that will probably take me a few more months to go through as it is just rich in a history that was never taught to me and I want to make sure I understand what the story is that they are trying to tell.

Below are some short videos pertaining to books:
